UH Alumnus Wins Fehrenbach Prize

Amilcar Shabazz, who completed his Ph.D. in history at the University of Houston in 1996, has been awarded the T. R. Fehrenbach Book Award. This prize honors original research and publication of material that preserves, records, and recounts the prehistory and history of Texas. The book is Advancing Democracy: African Americans and the Struggle for Access and Equity in Higher Education in Texas (North Carolina, 2004). Dr. Shabazz is an Associate Professor of American Studies and Director of the African American Studies Program at the University of Alabama. The UH History Department extends its congratulations to Dr. Shabazz.
