Posted: September 30, 2005

On October 20-22, 2005, the University of Houston Women's Studies Program will host a conference titled "21st-Century Motherhood: Change." The conference kicks off with a free public lecture by NYT science writer Natalie Angier at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, October 20, at Cullen Performance Hall on the UH campus. On Friday and Saturday, six panels of presenters and distinguished commentators will discuss historical and current aspects of motherhood on themes including: economics/policy, media, class/race/globalization, and biology/technology. On Saturday night, the Everybody Ball, open to the public, will cap the event and raise funds for the Women's Studies Program. To find more information and to register, please go to this link. Registration is free for UH faculty, staff, and students.

History faculty members Susan Kellogg, Steven Mintz, and Landon Storrs have been involved in planning this event. The Tenneco Lecture Series, which is housed in the Department's Center for Public History, is a co-sponsor of the conference.
