UH Grad Student Sinitiere Scores Prize

Phil Sinitiere, a Ph.D. student in history at the University of Houston, received the World History Association-Phi Alpha Theta Student Paper in World History Prize (Graduate Division) for his essay "Navigating the Indian Ocean: Exploring the Textures of an African Diaspora." Written in Dr. Kairn Klieman's seminar on African history (Spring 2005), this paper explores the African diaspora in the Indian Ocean world and examines cross-cultural encounters between Africa and India.
A national competition sponsored jointly by the World History Association, Phi Alpha Theta, and Pearson Prentice Hall, this honor comes with a cash prize and award presentation at the World History Association Annual Meeting, to be held June 22-25, 2006, at California State University, Long Beach. The Department congratulates Mr. Sinitiere on his achievement.
