Melosi Named Fulbright Specialist/Keynote Speaker

Martin Melosi has received a Fulbright Senior Specialist award for June, 2007. Dr. Melosi will give a keynote address at the 5th International Water History Association Conference entitled “Pasts and Futures of Water,” hosted by Tampere University of Technology (TUT) and the University of Tampere (UTA) in Finland. He also will participate in a post-graduate research program, “Water Governance in Long-term Perspectives,” sponsored by TUT. Dr. Melosi will lecture, comment on student presentations and their research plans, and otherwise participate in the program.

Dr. Melosi is one of the nation's leading scholars in the area of Environmental history. He is a Distinguished University Professor of History and Director of the Center for Public History at the University of Houston. In 2000-01, he held the Fulbright Chair in American Studies at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense, and has been a visiting professor at the University of Paris and the University of Helsinki. In 2005, Melosi received the Esther Farfel Award, the highest honor accorded to a University of Houston faculty member.
