History Department Welcomes Fall Speakers

The University of Houston History Department welcomes outstanding speakers for fall 2007.
On Friday, October 5, James Carter, an assistant professor at Texas A & M, Corpus Christi who received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Houston, will discuss "Inventing Vietnam: Lessons in Nation Building from a Forgotten Example." Dr. Carter is the author of Inventing Vietnam: The United States and Statemaking in Southeast Asia (forthcoming Cambridge University Press). The talk will be in Room 11 in Agnes Arnold Hall.
On Wednesday, October 24, Susan Ferber, the editor of both trade and academic history books at the Oxford University Press is the world's largest university press. The talk will be in Room 549 of Agnes Arnold Hall.
On Monday, October 29, the history department welcomes Dominque Barthelemy of the University of Paris-Sorbonne. His lecture addresses "The Origins of French Chivalry." The talk will be in the Elizabeth Rockwell Pavilion of the M.D. Anderson Library from 4-5:30 p.m.
Anyone is welcome at these lectures.
