Eduardo Contreras received his A.B. from Amherst College in 1996 and his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in 2008. He has held fellowships with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (1997-98), the Social Science Research Council Sexuality Research Program (2002-03), and the Five-College Fellowship for Minority Scholars Program (2003-04).
Teaching
Professor Contreras teaches courses in comparative Latino history; the history of gender and sexuality; gay and lesbian history; and the history of community organizing. More broadly, his teaching portfolio includes the United States since 1945 and the second half of the U.S. history survey.
Research Interests
Professor Contreras’ current research project centers on Latina and Latino community organizing in San Francisco from the 1940s to the 1980s. The project investigates Latino activism and political visions at a time of increased ethnic awareness; growing state intervention in inner-city communities; and the expansion of feminist, gay, and lesbian politics.
