An expert on the diplomatic history of the early United States, Professor Egan is the author of Neither Peace Nor War: Franco-American Relations, 1803-1812, which traces relations between the United States and Napoleonic France in the ten years following the Louisiana Purcase. He is now writing a study of the Embargo of 1807. He currently serves on the program committee of the Society for Historians of the Early American Republic and as secretary and treasurer of the Southwest Association for Canadian Studies.
