I am a grad student at the University of Houston, working toward a PhD in medieval history. My specific area is medieval English legal history. My dissertation topic is Anglo-Norman Law and Society (well, that's the short form, for those not wanting the gory details). I have a B.A. from Wesleyan Univ. in Connecticut, and a J.D. from William and Mary. After six years of work as a lawyer, I forswore my solemn oath never to return to school and succumbed to my desire to teach college-level history.

I am from Vermont, which for those who have been either place, is pretty much the polar opposite of Houston. I tend to vacillate on the question of which is worse, the terrible cold and snow of Vermont in the winter, or the hideous heat and humidity of Houston in the summer.

I am a big
fan, not an easy thing to be recently, but there is always hope. After so many of the New York Giants went to the New England Patriots (not to mention Parcells), I started rooting for them as well. All the same, I must admit I wanted the Packers to win the Superbowl... And now Parcells has gone to the Jets. But I just can't root for the Jets. I just can't do it. Ah well, my allegiance remains to the Giants - and the new coach seems to be doing pretty well so far, so I'll keep hoping...

I have recently become a big fan of the comicbook series (now also a Sat am cartoon on FOX) THE TICK.
My Favorite Musical Diversion...is the renewed collaboration between former Led Zeppelin bandmates Robert Plant and Jimmy Page.
